2014/18 COMMONWEALTH GAMES SILVER MEDALS & 2018 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS BRONZE MEDAL

Michaela Walsh hails from Belfast and trains at Monkstown Boxing Club in Newtownabbey. As Junior Michaela won European Junior Silver in 2008 and Bronze in 2010. In 2010 Michaela won World Youth Bronze in 2011.

Michaela won flyweight silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where the reigning Olympic champion Nicola Adams beat her in the final.

In 2017 she won European Union Gold. In 2018, fighting at featherweight, she won bronze at the European Championships and a second Commonwealth silver.

In 2019 she won seven of nine international fights and silver at the European Games. In 2021 she took silver at the final Olympic qualifying tournament, losing to Italy’s Irma Testa in the final. She had already secured Olympic qualification in the semi-final

Michaela brother Aidan is also a champion Irish amateur boxer and Olympic Bronze Medallist from Tokyo 2020.
Both Michaela and Aidan secured qualification to be the first brother/Sister combo to box in an Olympic Games at Tokyo 2020,

2022 will be another big year of competition for Micaela with the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the European Boxing Championships.

Double trouble – Aidan and Michaela Walsh want more medals in Paris
Life is slowly getting back to normal for Aidan and Michaela Walsh, Ireland’s first brother and sister to qualify for the same Olympic Games. On a break from the Irish Athletic Boxing Association’s high-performance unit, they are enjoying the novelty of training with father Damian, and their clubmates at Monkstown ABC on the northern outskirts of Belfast.

European Games: Michaela Walsh takes silver medal after points defeat in final
Belfast boxer Michaela Walsh has been beaten on points by Sanimira Petrova of Bulgaria in the women’s featherweight final at the European Games. The 26-year-old had to settle for a silver medal after a 4-1 split decision loss to the third seed in Belarus. Walsh had defeated Russian Daria Abramova 3-2 on a split decision in her semi-final on Friday to earn a shot at the gold medal.

Kellie Harrington and Michaela Walsh win semi-finals to box for European gold in Paris tomorrow
Ireland’s Kellie Harrington and Michaela Walsh will box for gold tomorrow at the European Olympics qualifiers in Paris. The pair who had already secured their Olympic slots at next month’s Games in Tokyo won their respective semi-finals at feather and light weight this afternoon. The 2018 World champion Harrington cruised to a unanimous 5-0 win over Turkish lightweight Esra Yidiz even if four of the judges contrived to give the first round to the Turk.

Michaela Walsh posts emotional message about brother Aidan after he wins Olympic medal
Michaela Walsh says watching her brother Aidan win an Olympic medal has brought a joy to her that she has never felt before. Aidan, 24, defeated Merven Clair of Mauritius in the welterweight quarter-finals at the Kokugikan Arena on Friday morning and will now face GB’s Pat McCormack in the semi-final on Sunday. Michaela, who is also a member of Team Ireland, was in the arena to see her younger brother secure Ireland’s third medal of the games.
